ATEC carry out Badger Surveys

ATEC has specialist experience in Badger ecology and have been extensively involved in the determination of mitigation measures to minimise disturbance to Badger setts during the construction of roads, railway lines and in both commercial and residential development projects.

Badger surveys undertaken by ATEC involve the identification of signs of Badger activity within a survey area including the location of Badger setts.

Badger Sett with 2 Entrances

This will involve traversing the survey area in order to look for Badger setts and mammal signs. Any other evidence of Badgers such as snuffle holes, latrines, tracks and prints are searched for and noted if present.

Badger Latrine
Within a Badger Group’s territory a number of setts are dug, however there is only one main sett per group. Main setts are larger than other setts in terms of area and volume and contain more chambers, nests and latrines. In contrast, there are smaller setts that consist of one or two holes and are normally classified as outlier setts. Between these two extremes are annex setts that are located close to the main sett and connected to it by well worn paths.
