The Otter Holt is normally well hidden and is often composed of a dug-out chamber along a river bank, under overhanging tree roots or within small rocky cairns along the river bank. Holts may also be formed some distance from the river in rough vegetation. Otters demarcate their territory with faecal droppings known as ‘spraints’ left in conspicuous places such as on prominent rocks, under bridges or on fallen trees. |
